We’re delighted to be supporting Nelson’s Journey as our Charity of the Month for August 2024! Nelson’s Journey is on a mission to bring back smiles to children and young people in Norfolk by supporting them with their bereavement needs, and helping them to understand and cope with their feelings when losing a loved one. Nelson’s Journey’s vision is that every bereaved child in Norfolk will look forward to a positive future, empowered to reach their full potential.
This month, Team LP is taking part in Tour de Broads, cycling 50 miles across Norfolk to raise funds for the brilliant Nelson’s Journey, so please do support our Team and donate to our Just Giving page here: Leathes Prior Solicitors is fundraising for Nelson's Journey (justgiving.com)
What support does Nelson’s Journey offer?
Nelson’s Journey is there for children, young people, and their families at the time of a bereavement, as well as in the months and years after a death too. Their support comes in many forms and depends on the needs of the children and families, including Early Support service telephone calls with children and parents, one-to-one sessions, group-based activities, and a whole library of resources and activities for children and families to access and do together to work through their bereavement, and much more.
They also offer Child Bereavement Awareness Training to professionals working with children and young people in Norfolk too. If you are working with young people and think this could be beneficial for you and your colleagues, find out more about their training here.
How can I get involved?
Supporting Nelson’s Journey through volunteering and fundraising are both great ways to get involved and support their mission.
Volunteering – Nelson’s Journey has over 80 volunteers who support our work in a variety of ways, including adults and young people aged 11-17. Some of their volunteers work directly with children in therapeutic activities, some support events which help them to raise funds and awareness of their work, and some get involved by regularly offering time to support office admin-based activities.
If you’re interested in volunteering with Nelson’s Journey, find out more about the opportunities available and ways you can get involved here.

Taiwo v HomeLets of Bath Ltd & Ors [2025] EWHC 3173 (KB) (03 December 2025)
The use of AI Large Language Models in litigation continues to generate headlines (and consternation from the judiciary). In 2025, it seemed that rarely a month went by without a new case on fake AI-generated case law. December was no exception, and the High Court has now issued a further warning regarding the use of AI by litigants.

Autumn Budget 2025: Agricultural Property Relief & Business Property Relief Changes
It was announced in the 2025 Budget that from 6 April 2026, changes will be made to agricultural property relief and business property relief. These changes bring APR and BPR in line with the nil-rate band rules, meaning unused allowances can be transferred to a surviving spouse or civil partner. This is a significant step towards making estate planning easier for families who own farms or businesses.
