Jo acts for clients accused of committing a wide range of offences, from motoring to serious offences against the person. She provides specialist representation for clients facing interview under caution and criminal court proceedings. Jo prides herself on being meticulous in her approach to preparing cases, and offers clear, sound advice whilst being sensitive to the varying needs of each individual client.
Outside of work Jo likes to spend as much time in nature as possible and particularly enjoys camping holidays with her partner. One of her other great joys in life is live music, and during summer months will often be found in a festival field. At home, her happy places are either in the kitchen, as she loves to cook, or sat reading a good book, preferably with her ginger tabby cat on her lap.
- Assisting clients during the investigation stage, in entering into pre-charge engagement with the police or other investigating authority (such as the DWP or local authority), and successfully bringing about an end to the investigation with a decision by to take no further action.
- Presenting persuasive arguments in mitigation on behalf of client’s being sentenced in the Magistrates Court.
- Representing numerous clients who stood to be disqualified from driving under the totting provisions, and making successful exceptional hardship arguments in the magistrates court in order to avoid disqualification.
- Preparing cases for trial in the Magistrates and the Crown Court and instructing appropriate Trial Counsel.
- Advising clients who have been notified of additional information which stands to be disclosed on their DBS certificates and, in appropriate cases, successfully making representations that the information should not be disclosed.
- Graduated from the University of Huddersfield in 2016 having attained a 1st class honours Law Degree and a distinction in the Legal Practice Course
- Completed a regulatory and criminal defence focused training contract with Gotelee Solicitors in Ipswich, qualifying as a solicitor in July 2021
- Joined Leathes Prior in July 2024
