Our Charity of the Month: The Feed

Leathes Prior is delighted to be supporting The Feed as our Charity of the Month for September 2025. Founded in 2014, The Feed is a Norwich-based charity dedicated to helping communities thrive. Their catering and café services bring people together and generate vital funds for their community projects. All revenue made goes back into the ‘Social Supermarket’ and ‘Community Café’, to help those who need it most, to eat well, live well, and feel connected. These amazing projects also enable The Feed to provide volunteering opportunities and work experience to the community.
Research shows that Norfolk has the highest malnutrition rate in England, whereby 6.7% of its residents are malnourished, 1/3rd higher than England’s average - The Feed is a vital service needed to combat this statistic.
Social Supermarket
One of the main functions The Feed has is its Social Supermarket - and you may be wondering what that is. The Feed set up its Social Supermarket on Hall Road, offering a wide range of affordable groceries despite the ever-increasing cost of living. They work with local food producers and suppliers, helping to keep costs low so food is more affordable than in all supermarkets. The Social Supermarket is open to Norwich residents who are affected by the cost of living and cannot afford essential food items. On offer is fresh, chilled, frozen food and drinks, cleaning products, and other essentials. They also offer free toiletries, fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, and other bakery items. An astonishing 2,000 households were provided with affordable food, just eight months after launch. If this is a service you, or someone you know, may need access to, you can sign up via their online form, or call them by telephone on 01603 331966 or via email at callum@thefeed.org.uk. In September, we are sponsoring The Feed to fund their free fruit and veg for the whole of the month - this is something open to all businesses, so if you would like to support this initiative, do get in touch with The Feed to find out more.
Community Cafe
Directly attached to the Social Supermarket is the Community Café. It aims to be a space where Social Supermarket members can connect over food, enjoy fun activities, learn skills, and speak with support workers from partner organisations. Prices are significantly lower at the Community Cafe compared to other cafes around Norwich, providing individuals in the community with a space to connect with others without pressure to spend money or to access food and drinks at a more affordable rate.
The impact The Feed makes
Compared to 2023/24, members reported:
- A 34% increase in using the Social Supermarket daily or a few times a week
- A 12% increase in people saying the Social Supermarket "helped them to access a wide range of food"
- A 6% increase in people saying they can afford to eat a healthy, balanced diet after using the Social Supermarket
- A 13% increase in members saying they feel connected in the community since joining the community hub
