Tax Accountant


We are now recruiting an Accountant to join our well-established Wills, Trusts, and Probate Team.

The candidate and post

You will be an impressive and experienced accountant (AAT qualified minimum) managing your own workload. Experience in a legal industry or a STEP Certification in Trusts and Estates is advantageous.

Responsibility will include the following:-

1. Trust Administration;
2. Trust Tax compliance to include drafting and filing IHT100s;
3. Trust Income Tax and Capital Gains Tax Returns and Holdover Relief claims;
4. Estate Income Tax and Capital Gains Tax Returns;
5. Tax advisory work to include advising on the Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax consequences of settling assets on Trusts, removing assets from Trusts, and winding up Trusts;
6. Preparation of Estate Account;
7. Broader Tax advisory work to include providing Capital Gains Tax advice to the wider Firm (such as the Family Team and Corporate Team) would be an advantage but not essential.
8. Be a self-starter who grasps market opportunities to identify business development opportunities, develop new business, and contribute to the firm's growth strategy.
9. The candidate would ideally have some level of experience in Personal Tax.

The nature of this role requires a candidate who is confident to work independently and has significant experience as the individual will be working in a Team comprised of legal fee earners, as opposed to other accountants.

The team, clients, and work

Leathes Prior’s Wills, Trusts & Probate Team comprises of two Partners, three Senior Associates, two Associates, two Solicitors, one Chartered Legal Executive, and one Trainee Solicitor. The team’s client base includes individuals, farming and agricultural families, landed estates, businesses, and clients further afield. The role holder will be responsible for preparing Trust Accounts and Trust Tax returns, alongside providing general advice on Inheritance and Capital Gains Tax. Additionally, the role holder will prepare the drafting of Inheritance Tax returns for both Trusts and Estates and be responsible for the Trust Registration Compliance process including the online filing of returns.
