Notarial Services
A Notary is an officer of the law whose public office and duty is to prepare and authenticate documents for use overseas.
The signature and seal of a Notary are internationally recognised as proof of the matters certified by him, which is why “notarisation” is often requested by the authorities in the country where the document is to be used.
If a document has to be signed outside of the country in which it is to be used, the authorities in that country cannot confirm for themselves that the necessary formalities have been complied with; so, instead, a Notary is relied upon to provide that confirmation.
Two of the solicitors at Leathes Prior, Norwich – Jonathan Chadd and Richard Guthrie – operate an independent professional practice as Notaries Public, offering a timely and efficient service with a commitment to ensuring that your documentation is effective in the foreign jurisdiction.
Notarial Services include:

It is also frequently necessary for a notarised document to be sent to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office or a foreign embassy so that the Notary’s signature and seal can be verified – by obtaining a certificate called an “Apostille” or by a process called “legalisation”.
We can advise on these requirements – and the form of the documentation – which vary from country to country.
The above list is not exhaustive: if you require the services of a Notary in Norwich / Norfolk, we will be able to help.
