Ed Savory
Associate
Ed grew up in Norfolk before heading to Newcastle University from where he graduated with a 2:1 degree in Law. Ed trained in London with national firm Beachcroft LLP, qualifying as a solicitor in 2006.
From 2007 to 2011 Ed worked as an Associate in the Business and Finance team at the London office of global law firm, Morgan Lewis & Bockius. Ed’s practice focused on advising European and North American clients on a wide range of corporate finance and commercial issues, specialising in advising on private and public M&A, as well as refinancings, restructurings, joint ventures and AIM floats, with deals ranging in value from a few million pounds to hundreds of millions of pounds.
Ed joined Leathes Prior in June 2011 as an Associate in the firm’s Company/Commercial team, specialising in Franchising. Ed advises local, national and international businesses on a wide range of commercial issues relevant to their expansion through franchising or licensing structures. This includes drafting and amending franchise agreements and related documents, advising on the legal elements of operations manuals, terms of business, Data Protection Act compliance etc, advising on the sale and/or transfer of franchised businesses, and advising potential franchisees on the legal aspects associated with entering into a franchise arrangement.
Ed is actively involved with the British Franchise Association (BFA) and is currently undertaking the BFA's Qualified Franchise Professional qualification which is a formal recognition of professional knowledge and experience within the industry.
Ed also commits time to advising charities on a pro bono basis and is the appointed solicitor to the charity SNAAP (Special Needs Advisory and Activity Project).
Away from the office Ed is a keen sportsman who regularly plays various sports including golf, tennis, squash, hockey and cricket. Ed is a lifelong fan of Norwich City Football Club and a keen countryman.
