DR Studios Ltd, a prestigious software development company based in Milton Keynes, yesterday successfully defended a complex TUPE and unfair dismissal claim brought against it by two employees of a business which DR Studios acquired.
DR Studios were represented throughout, and at yesterday’s hearing at Bedford Employment Tribunal, by Dan Chapman – the Head of Leathes Prior’s growing employment team.
Dan said; “This has been a complex case involving numerous parties, and we are delighted with the outcome. The Tribunal has recognised the commercial realities of running a stable and successful business, and it is to the credit of the directors of DR Studios – who assisted us so ably in preparing for this case – that the matter has been disposed of.”
Suzanne Tomkinson, of DR Studios, stated that the company were “relieved at the outcome” and wanted to express their “thanks and appreciation” to Leathes Prior. Suzanne also said that she now had an “increased faith in the Employment Tribunal system”.
The case outlines the fact that Leathes Prior’s employment team is now developing a reputation nationally and regularly appears at Tribunals across the UK.
Dan comments; “Despite the fact that most law firms hold themselves out as able employment law and Tribunal practitioners, there are still few firms where the solicitors are skilled advocates and who conduct a case from start to finish. We believe that by providing this service to our employer clients, without having to outsource the Tribunal advocacy to counsel, we are giving clients what they want - an ongoing relationship with their lawyer, who understands every facet of their case, from start to finish. It is for this reason that we are starting to pick up more and more work on a national basis, and long may it continue. May employers operate under a misconception which is that the Tribunal system is against them and favours employees - our track record shows that this is just not true. The outcome of a case, whether it be for the employee or employer, depends on the merits of the case and the quality of the representation."
