Former Manager wins Unfair Dismissal case against Norwich Union

Rory Bauer, a former senior Sales Manager, has successfully brought a claim for Unfair Dismissal against Norwich Union. The Employment Tribunal in Norwich yesterday returned a unanimous verdict that Mr Bauer had been unfairly dismissed by his former employer.

Norwich Union alleged that Mr Bauer had been guilty of fraudulently submitting expense claims, an allegation he always strenuously denied. Following an investigation by Norwich Union’s Group Financial Crime department, Mr Bauer was eventually dismissed in March 2007.

Mr Bauer said that the verdict gave him complete vindication, as he felt forced to go to the Tribunal in order to clear his name. “This decision means that I can put this whole episode behind me. It was very important for me to prove that I was not dishonest and I can now move on with my career.”

Mr Bauer’s employment solicitor, Paula Lawn of Leathes Prior, said, “We were surprised that Norwich Union chose to defend this matter in the Employment Tribunal and are delighted with the outcome.”   Norwich Union were represented by Mills & Reeve Solicitors.
