TRAINING SERVICES

We can provide an in-house training service and practical clinics to employers and employee groups on all areas of employment law. Our most popular courses are:

  • Current employment law
A general overview of what employers need to know, including a summary of the Working Time Regulations and the Minimum Wage Legislation. This overview also looks at common pitfalls for employers and how to avoid them.
  • Understanding and using your employment contracts & procedures
An in-depth look at the function of the employment contract, how to use it, and how to make it work to the employer’s advantage. This course also looks at the policies and procedures employers should have in place as part of, or in addition to, the contract focusing on their purpose and function both from a legal and practical point of view.
  • Disciplinary and grievance procedures
This course looks in detail at the disciplinary and grievance procedures focusing on what the law requires, looking at good practice and examining how employers can use such procedures to strengthen their position with their workforce. As of 1 October 2004 there are certain minimum requirements with which employers must comply. This course also focuses on the practical issues of how to hold a disciplinary hearing, how to organise an investigation into misconduct and how to deal with poorly performing staff.
  • Restructuring your workforce and redundancy
This course is aimed at businesses that may be going through a process of change. It looks at ways to restructure the workforce, including a detailed examination of how to go about changing existing employment contracts and/or introducing new ones lawfully. This course also focuses on how to reduce your workforce by effecting redundancies. It goes through the procedure required to effect lawful and fair redundancies and gives advice on maintaining staff morale.
