Hazel Gill Partner
I joined Leathes Prior in September 2000 as a "mature" trainee at the age of 34. Having taken some time to get my legal career started, I was anxious not to waste any more time and to get on with real lawyering as soon as possible. Leathes Prior provided me with the opportunity to do so in ample measure and - qualifying into the Private Client department in September 2002 - I was made a partner in May 2005.
In short, if you think you have got what it takes, the partners at Leathes Prior will give you plenty of scope to demonstrate your strengths and will reward you accordingly. Forget law school stories of endless photocopying assignments and not being let near a client for the first five years, the reality of life as a Leathes Prior trainee could not be more different. My second day as a trainee found me at Harwich preventing a suicidal schizophrenic asylum seeker from being deported.
Not all of my contract was quite so dramatic, but all of it was demanding and thoroughly enjoyable. The partners were friendly, supportive and approachable and the work was always varied and interesting. As a Leathes Prior trainee you will be offered as many chances as your own competence and enthusiasm will allow to be hands on with real legal work. As you get stuck in to the nitty gritty you will be part of a down to earth and supportive team who will value your input and assistance.
