Polly Morgan
Solicitor
I joined LP in 2003 and qualified in 2005. My first seat was in company/commercial. I also did employment law before deciding to specialise in matrimonial work.
Even though I now practise matrimonial law as an assistant solicitor at the firm, the skills and knowledge I developed in my other seats are still very useful. I was given as much or as little responsibility as I wanted and was fully involved in seeing clients, drafting documents and, under guidance, managing cases right from the outset. I’ve never had the feeling of being left to sink or swim but nor have I ever been given the photocopying or the tea making.
As a trainee I found the older trainees and newly qualifieds very helpful, and could always pop in and see them if I wanted advice. My main tip for successful training, however, is always be lovely to the secretaries because they can really help you.
I think this is a place which welcomes individuals and their specific skills and appreciates individuality rather than wanting conformity. That’s a rare thing in law firms and one that I appreciate.
